Immigration Bureau to use barcode in its documentation system
The Philippine Bureau of Immigration will soon be using barcodes in its documentation system as part of its anti-corruption campaign.
BI Commissioner Ronaldo Geron believed that by using the system the bureau would be able to keep track and monitor the documents that are being processed there.
“I want to install technological interventions to have a doable tracking system,” Geron told reporters, noting that the BI would also be able to pinpoint accountability in case of delays in the release documents.
Also, Geron said the BI is planning to implement system in March, starting with the more “crucial documents” such as the Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) and paper works in their legal division.
The funding for the new system, Geron said, will come from the Office of the Ombudsman, involving P500,000.00 worth of equipment, including a barcode printer and reader.
He said the donation is part of the amount the World Bank had given to help the Office of the Ombudsman finance its anti-corruption projects.
Application of barcodes on documents is part of the Integrity Management Program (IMP) of the Office of the President, Geron noted.
Meanwhile, he said that on February 1, a team from the IMP will teach BI's Immigration personnel on the proper use of the barcode system. — LBG, GMA News
