VP Binay vows to tackle poverty to address criminality

SAN PEDRO/BIÑAN, Laguna – How does Vice President Binay solve a problem like criminality if he is elected President?

By addressing poverty.

"May problema tayo sa katahimikan. Araw-araw, nababasa mo may patayan. Pero noong ako ay mayor, hindi ko ho naging problema 'yang kriminalidad," Binay claimed in an interview with reporters after a program in Barangay Landayan.

How would he then solve criminality?

Binay, who is running in the 2016 presidential race, said the country's main problem is poverty.

"Unang una, 'yung problema kasi... 'yung kahirapan. Alam mo, 'yung criminality... one cause niyan 'yung poverty," he said.

Binay is running on a platform of poverty alleviation.

Should they be elected, Binay's running mate, Senator Gringo Honasan said that hand in hand they would fight criminality and maintain peace and order.

"Sama sama nating lalabanan ang kriminalidad... Si VP Binay ay magiging tunay na commander-in-chief ng sandatahang lakas at kapulisan para hindi na mangyari ang malagim na nangyari SAF 44," he said during a short program in Barangay Malaban, Biñan.

Binay reiterated he intends to continue the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) or conditional cash transfer program – the flagship poverty alleviation program adopted by the Aquino administration.

"'Yung 4Ps, palalawakin ko pa, dadagdagan pa natin ng pera 'yan," he said.

The crowd cheered and applauded that declaration. – VS, GMA News
