FDA warns against unregistered tablet medicines, eye drops, liniment

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday issued an official public health warning against several unregistered medicines.

The warning was issued against:

  • Propranolol Hydrochloride (Apo-Propranolol) 10 mg tablet,
  • Simply Right Calcium 600 mg with Vitamin D3 tablet,
  • Mineral Eye Drops, and
  • Dok F H.A—Plus Health Aromatic Plus 60 mL.

According to the FDA advisory, there could be health dangers from the products, and as they were unregistered, the importation, manufacturing and distribution of the products violated Republic Act No 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.

All the unregistered medicines in the market would be confiscated for the safety of the public, in compliance with the Section 12 of R.A. No. 9711.

The importation and distribution of unregistered medicines was also discouraged, as it would result in penalties.

Likewise, local government units and other agencies involved were asked to ensure that the market is free of the unregistered medicines.

The FDA reiterated the importance of buying medicines only in accredited drugstore licensed by the agency. Medicines from these establishments have undergone the necessary inspection, analysis, registration, and examination to ensure quality and safety.

Designated FDA Registration numbers can be found on the label of food and drugs products in the market. — Bianca Rose Dabu/DVM, GMA News
