Images of EDSA from the three days that ousted Ferdinand Marcos 30 years ago

The four-day coverage started with the press conference of two of Ferdinand Marcos' top security officials withdrawing support from the dictator. It ended with millions of people on EDSA forcing the strongman out of Malacañang.

Joe Galvez, GMA News Online's photo editor, was a photographer for the anti-Marcos publications Philippine Daily Inquirer and Mr. and Ms. magazine when he went to Camp Aguinaldo to cover the defection of then Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and then Armed Forces Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Fidel Ramos on February 22.

Later that afternoon, Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin called on Filipinos to gather at EDSA in between Camp Aguinaldo and Camp Crame to show support for the two defectors.

"On the morning of the 23rd, there were already many people on EDSA," said Galvez, who said he and his fellow news photographers slept on the highway during those three eventful days that led to the ouster of the dictator on February 25.

More than a million people stayed on EDSA until February 25 when Marcos, his family and some cronies fled to the United States. By February 26, Galvez had photographs not just of a huge demonstration on EDSA but of an important moment in the history of the country.

Here are some of Galvez's photographs of the People Power Revolution and earlier events leading to it, including the huge funeral march for slain opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr. in 1983.
