UP, ADMU, DLSU featured in QS World University Subject rankings
The University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and the De La Salle University, between them, placed seven times in the 2016 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
According to a news release from the QS Quacquarelli Symonds, this latest Rankings by Subject is the largest-ever world subject ranking, covering 42 disciplines from Anthropology, Engineering, Physics & Astronomy, to Education.
UP was featured in four subjects, the most of all Philippine universities, though less than 2015's 11 subjects. The State University ranked in the 101-150 category in English Language & Literature, ranked between 101-150 in both Agriculture & Forestry and Modern Languages, and was in the 301-400 category in Medicine.
DLSU was ranked in the 151-200 band for English Language & Literature, and in the 201-300 category for Education.
ADMU was also ranked in the 151-200 band for English Language & Literature.
The three Philippine universities had also ranked in the QS World University Ranking.
Meanwhile, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continued to dominate the subject rankings, leading in 24 subjects between them, and each taking 12 leading positions.
In placing in the rankings this year, the Philippines becomes one of 60 countries worldwide that have universities recognized by QS as providing a world-class education in one or more subjects.
The rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The expert opinion of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers informed the results, alongside the analysis of 28.5 million research papers and over 113 million citations sourced from the Scopus/Elsevier bibliometric database.
