PCGG opens virtual exhibit of Marcos jewelry Hawaii collection


To raise public awareness on the two-decade plunder of the Marcoses during Martial Law, the Presidential Commission on Good Government has launched an online exhibit of selected pieces of the Hawaii jewelry collection.

 

A report on the Official Gazette said the the PCGG will be posting selected jewelry items to remind the present generation of the excesses and extravagance of the Marcoses’ during their two-decade dictatorship.

The online exhibit is captioned: "Virtual Jewelry Exhibit, A Story of Excesses: What could have fueled a nation’s development...," the report said.

The items of the exhibit includes a collection that was seized by the US Bureau of Customs upon the Marcoses’ arrival in Hawaii in 1986, and is currently stored at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) under the commission’s custody, the report said.

Earlier, the PCGG reported that there are three collections of jewelry seized from the Marcos family, and that these have been collectively appraised at P1 billion.

In a statement, the PCGG said the amount was "a conservative estimate."
