Duterte joins ex-wife's birthday party in Cebu
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday took a break from the campaign to attend the birthday celebration of his former wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Zimmerman who has Stage 3 cancer skipped radiation treatments to go around Mindanao and Visayas to campaign for the Davao City mayor's bid for the presidency.
The campaign caravan, called Biyaheng Du30, also involved their daughter, Inday Sara, and a few volunteers.
The Biyaheng Du30 bus aims to complete its run in the last 30 days of the 90-day campaign period.
In a Facebook post on Biyaheng Du30’s page, the couple sat beside each other while answering the questions from the press.
Duterte also left a message for Zimmerman.
“Good health, and may she live for a thousand years,” he said.
Inday Sara's sibling Paolo, the incumbent vice Mayor of Davao City, also attended the celebration.
Duterte and Zimmerman have been married for almost 25 years before they got legally separated in 1998. They have three children — Paolo, Inday Sara, and entrepreneur/musician Sebastian.
After the party, Duterte flew back to Luzon to continue his scheduled campaign activities in Batangas and Cavite on Thursday afternoon. — APG, GMA News
