PNoy on Bongbong, dad: Same slogan, same dictatorial rule?
CLARK, Pampanga — President Benigno Aquino III on Monday slammed anew Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as he campaigned for the administration tandem during a meeting with local and barangay officials here.
Aquino said he couldn’t help but recall the similarity of the former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ campaign pitch for her son, who is running for vice president in the May elections, with that of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
“Alam n'yo kanina sa dyaryo kasi binabasa ko eh, sabi raw po ni Ginang Imelda Marcos, Romualdez-Marcos: ‘My son will make this country great again.’ So napag-isip ako, parang narinig ko na ‘yon ah at pina-research ko po. Iyon po ang campaign slogan ni Ferdinand Marcos noong unang tumakbo siya 1965: ‘I will make this country great again’,” Aquino said.
“Ako naman baka sabihin n'yo biased, napapag-isip lang ako. Parang pareho pa rin ang slogan nila. Pareho pa rin yata ang gagawin nila at kung may magagawa ako hindi mangyayari ‘yan,” Aquino added.
While he did not directly refer to the dictatorship of Senator Marcos’ father, Aquino said: “Ayoko nang ulitin ‘yung dinaanan nating problema lalo na mula 1972 hanggang 1986.”
It was during those years that the Philippines was under the Marcos dictatorship before the former President was peacefully overthrown during the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Meanwhile, Aquino also made the pitch for the tandem of administration candidates Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and Leni Robredo.
“Pwedeng mawala lahat nang ginawa natin ngayon. Pwedeng naging bakasyon lang itong anim na taon na ito o pwedeng maging permanente. Nasa sa inyo po ‘yan,” he told the barangay leaders.
Aquino said Roxas had already accomplished what his opponents are promising in their campaign speeches, citing his successes in establishing the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry, and operations of police authorities in lowering crime incidents. —ALG, GMA News
