Labor group hits DOLE for giving subsidy to employers via job fairs

On the eve of Labor Day 2016, a workers' group criticized the Labor Department for giving undeserved subsidy for employers by organizing job fairs.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Partido ng Manggagawa said government-sponsored job fairs is actually a program for the "welfare of corporations" using taxpayers' money.

It said the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) uses money from the state treasury for job fairs, thereby sparing private companies the expenses for job hiring.

Besides, the PM statement said, job fairs only achieve "job matching" and not "job creation."

Thus for May 1, PM members will mark Labor Day with rallies in different parts of Metro Manila, Bulacan and Cavite, it added.

Also, the labor coalition Nagkaisa, of which PM is part, is not holding a central Labor Day mobilization in Manila as protest marches will also to be held in key cities nationwide.

Issues that would be raised during the rallies include: contractualization, living wages, low prices  of commodities, and decent public services —PM dub “Apat na Dapat.” — LBG, GMA News
