Navy's brand new sealift vessel arrives in Manila

The Philippine Navy's first strategic sealift vessel (SSV) has dropped anchor at the Manila South Harbor breakwater after arriving Saturday midnight, the navy spokesman announced.
Capt. Lued Lincuna said the Indonesian-built SSV designated as BRP Tarlac will be berthed at Pier 13 of the Manila South Harbor.
The BRP Tarlac is part of te P3.87 billion two-vessel contract entered into by the Philippine government with an Indonesian shipbuilder PT PAL Persero .
The SSVs will serve as the Navy's command center by carrying out their main purpose as military sealift and transport vessels, as well as for humanitarian assistance and disaster response, a statement from the Philippine Navy said.
The BRP Tarlac is equipped with modern navigation and surface search radar, air search radar, an electronic warfare system, electro-optical fire control system and combat management system.
Its flight deck can carry two 10-ton helicopters. It also has an enclosed hangar for a 10-ton helicopter. — APG, GMA News
