Quiboloy says gifts to Duterte have ‘no strings attached’

One of the most prominent personalities in Rodrigo Duterte's successful presidential campaign is his spiritual adviser and close friend, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

Quiboloy is the executive minister, founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc.

Earlier, the leading presidential candidate revealed that the idea to run for president started 18 years ago, when the pastor shared a particular dream to him.

Quiboloy said in an interview with GMA News, “It was a dream. I call it a dream revelation, where Mayor Duterte sent for me in an airplane. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, 'Ano ba itong nangyayaring ito? Si Mayor Duterte, bakit presidenta na?' That was 18 years ago.”

He is also known to be the provider of some of Duterte's assets, including real property to cars.

Quiboloy said nothing but friendship was the reason behind the gifts and his genoristy towards the mayor.

“Bago ang eroplano ko, bago ang jet at chopper ko, 'yun ang nagamit niya sa kampanya. Anytime that he needs it in the following six years, they are his to use. I am doing this out of our friendship," Quiboloy said.

"Whatever I have in the ministry as a blessing, nase-share ko sa kaniya, because he's very frugal,” he added.

All these he does without expecting anything in return—not even a position in the Duterte administration.

According to Quiboloy, he will remain as Duterte's spiritual adviser.

“No strings attached. It's just friendship. The love and compassion in my heart for helping is there, and I am not expecting anything in return," Quiboloy said.

“I will remain as a spiritual adviser. I will stay out of government,” he added.

As for the last advice he shall give to Duterte before he gets to Malacañang, Quiboloy said, “I will tell him to be the best example of a leader for the country. He's the country's leader now, and he know that the rules are different from when he was mayor."

"I will advice him na, just mellow your words. It's not only the Filipinos listening to you, it's the whole community of nations," Quiboloy said. —Bianca Rose Dabu/NB, GMA News
