High-powered firearms will no longer be licensed —Duterte
Presumptive president Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said that civilians would no longer be allowed to get licenses for high-powered guns.
"I will not allow the licensing of heavy firearms. It is just a shotgun, a .22 rifle,
and a short--any caliber would do as long as it is short, shotgun, or .22," he said.
Duterte said that those who already have licenses for heavy firearms could keep them but would have to secure permits to carry for the high-powered weapons.
He said permission would be given only under certain stringent conditions.
Duterte expressed fear that the firearms might find their way into the hands of insurgents.
He indicated that while he is willing to talk peace with the communist rebels, he was still an official of the government. —NB, GMA News
