Two of five concert casualties died of heart attack, NBI says
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday said two of the five people who collapsed to death during a rave concert in Pasay over the weekend died due to heart attack and multiple organ failure.
Dr. Romel Papa, chief of the NBI's Forensic Investigation Division, said one died due to heart attack with pulmonary edema, while the other died due to massive myocardial infarction with multiple organ failure.
The NBI came up with the findings after subjecting to autopsy the remains of Lance Garcia, 32, and Bianca Fontejon, 18.
The NBI, however, was again unable to release the results of the toxicology, dangerous substance, and alcohol tests made on the two bodies, saying confirmatory tests have yet to be completed and that the results will be out "early next week."
Two other victims, American Eric Anthony Miller, 33, and Ken Migawa, 18, had been examined by the Philippine National Police, while the fifth victim, Airel Leal, 22, was not examined upon the request of his family.
Tierra said the general toxicology test on Garcia and Fontejon's remains involved the extraction of representative tissue sections of their internal organs, as well as body fluid, mainly blood, to determine the presence of toxic or any poisonous materials in their bodies.
Apart from determining the presence or absence of any toxic substance, the NBI's exam also looked into the presence of dangerous drugs and alcohol in their bodies.
Fontejon and Miller were declared dead at the Manila Doctors' Hospital while Leal and Garcia expired at the San Juan de Dios hospital.
The five were among an estimated 14,000 attending the Forever Summer open-air concert, headlined by Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike late Saturday. —NB, GMA News
