Miriam Santiago moved out of ICU —staff

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago's condition has stabilized and has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular private room at the Makati Medical Center, the lawmaker's staff said on Thursday afternoon.

In a media advisory, Santiago's office said that she left the ICU around noon.

"She was earlier confined after she developed pneumonia due to complications of her lung cancer. She is now in stable condition," the senator's staff said.

The senator's husband, former Interior undersecretary Narciso "Jun" Santiago, earlier told radio station dzBB that pneumonia had affected her breathing.

"Everyday improving (ang condition niya). Pneumonia, naba-block yung dinadaanan ng oxygen. Nahihirapan siya huminga kaya binigyan ng gamot.  Pabuti na nang pabuti ang lagay niya," Jun Santiago said in a phone interview with dzBB.

He said that the senator was not bed-ridden but her movement was restricted.

"Hindi naman bedridden pero habang ginagamot nililimit yung movement para makapagpahinga siya," Jun Santiago said.

He added that the senator is very conscious.

"Andami na ngang sinasabi. Pag nagsisigaw na yan sasabihin ko sa inyo," he said in jest.

He said only immediate family members and doctors are allowed to go near the senator as her immunity was compromised.

"Bawal ang bisita. Bumaba ang immunity niya dahil sa iniinom na gamot kaya naging susceptible. (Bawal ang bisita) hanggang ginagamot pa yung pneumonia," he said. —NB, GMA News
