Henares meets with BIR successor
Outgoing Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares on Tuesday said that she already met with her successor, lawyer Cesar Dulay.
In an exclusive report by Susan Enriquez on GMA-7’s “24 Oras”, Henares said that Dulay visited her office Tuesday morning. She said only a few people noticed Dulay’s arrival because not many know him.
“Meet and greet. Kasi di ba ho, everyone is asking who he is. Also, he wants to find out general things. Nothing specific,” she said.
The meeting only lasted for an hour.
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte identified BIR as one of the corrupt agencies in government that he wanted to abolish. There were also reports of mass resignations following the statement.
Henares even immediately expressed her dismay over Duterte’s remarks. But she denied reports of a mass resignation. And just took Duterte’s words lightly.
“For the first four days, medyo ano ako. Noong pa-Friday na, may mga tauhan na alalang-alala na ganyan noh. Sagot ko sa kanila, ‘Dapat matuwa pa nga kayo eh. Ibig sabihin, kapag ma-abolish ang BIR, hindi na tayo magbabayad ng buwis’,” she said.
For now, Henares is just ready to move out with her head up high. At least, she is confident that other government agencies know that they have enough funds to implement various projects.
“I’m happy and relieved that I am going back to (the) private sector because you know this job, every month we start from zero. I don’t think there is any job in the world like that. We’re always in a treadmill. Nonstop,” she said. — BAP, GMA News
