Senate Presidents of the Philippines in last 100 years

The Philippines has had 22 Senate Presidents in the last 100 years.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III will be the country's 23rd Senate President as announced by outgoing Senate President Franklin Drilon.

The country's first Senate President was Manuel L. Quezon (1916-1935). He eventually became a two-term president of the country. He was the Philippines' second president after Emilio Aguinaldo.

Two other former Senate Presidents eventually became presidents of the country: Manuel Roxas (Senate President from 1945 to 1946) and Ferdinand Marcos Sr. (Senate President from 1963 to 1965).

The incumbent Senate President, Franklin Drilon, has served as head of the chamber under three administrations: Estrada (2000), Arroyo (2001 to 2006), and Aquino (2013 to present).

Meanwhile, Pimentel, the incoming Senate President, is the son of a former head of the Senate — Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr., who occupied the top Senate post from 2000 to 2001. — Veronica Pulumbarit and Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/RSJ, GMA News
