SC Justice Reyes to administer Duterte’s oath on June 30, says Bong Go
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes to administer his oath of office during his inauguration on June 30.
This was announced by Duterte’s special assistant and member of his inaugural committee Christopher “Bong” Go to reporters Thursday afternoon.
Reyes finished his Bachelor of Laws degree at San Beda College in 1971. He is Duterte’s fraternity brother as both are members of the Lex Talionis Fraternitas.
He was one of the justices who voted against the petition of Sen. Grace Poe to reverse the disqualification of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in March.
Reyes was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III on Aug. 23, 2011. He used to be an associate justice of the Court of Appeals, as appointed by former President and incumbent Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada in 2000.
He was nominated to be the next Chief Justice in 2012. But he declined the nomination.
Reyes was born in Obando, Bulacan on July 6, 1947. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in 1967. After finishing Law school, he passed the Bar Examinations in the same year with a rating of 81.6 percent.
He began his career in the judiciary in 1990 as a presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court of Malabon City. — APG/RSJ, GMA News
