No Vin d’Honneur after Duterte’s inauguration – Andanar 

Keeping to his campaign promise of a simple inauguration, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte will do away with the customary Vin d'Honneur for the diplomatic corps after the inaugural ceremony on June 30. 

During a press briefing in Davao City on Wednesday afternoon, incoming Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that instead of the usually lavish Vin d'Honneur, Duterte will instead host a diplomatic reception after his inauguration at the Malacañang Palace in the afternoon.

"As far as the list [of Duterte's activities] is concerned, the last activity, it's not even a Vin d'Honneur kasi Vin d'Honneur sosyalan iyan eh. Wine, champagne, mga ganyan eh. It's called the diplomatic reception," he explained. 

"Bakit binago? Because the President is a simple man," Andanar added. 

Andanar was also quick to dismiss assumptions that the diplomatic reception will have the same program and menu as the usual Vin d'Honneur. 

"It's just chitchat, I suppose, getting to know each other. Don't expect any champagne popping. Don't expect any caviar or cheese, blue cheese. Expect durian," he said. 

Andanar joked that the diplomatic corps can BYOB or "bring your own baon" if the Presidential Security Group (PSG) will allow it. — Trisha Macas/RSJ, GMA News
