Duterte returns to hometown Davao City as president

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday night flew back to Davao City, two days after he formally ascended the presidency.

GMA News' JP Soriano reported that the private jet carrying Duterte landed at the Davao old airport at 8:40 p.m. with his partner Honeylet Avanceña and their 12-year-old daughter Kitty.

Flights going in and out of Davao City were not affected.

Duterte had a long first full day as President on Friday after he oversaw the assumption of command of both Philippiine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya.

On his inauguration day on Thursday, Duterte hosted a diplomatic reception, met with the leaders of militant groups in the Palace, held his first Cabinet meeting, and attended a solidarity dinner with the residents of Tondo, Manila before resting at a hotel in Pasig City.

Before he became the 16th President of the Philippines, Duterte said he did not want to live in Malacañang and said he preferred to go home to Davao City every day.

Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar told GMA News Online that President Duterte will be back in Manila on Monday. —Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
