Duterte flies home to Davao City
President Rodrigo Duterte went home to Davao City before the end of the work week, GMA's Chino Gaston reported on "Saksi" on Thursday.
Duterte's plans on where he would hold office is not clear, but he earlier said he would be spending his time between Manila and Davao City while in office.
However, at this time that he decided to leave for Davao City he would be faced by the threat issued by the Islamic State.
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, who is the acting mayor, they received a threat to the city from the terrorist group.
The report is currently being investigated by the police and the military.
"Dahil na-inform ko na sila na i-beef up ang kanilang intelligence gathering pati ang security sa boundaries sa Davao City," acting Mayor Duterte said.
He also advised residents to be vigilant.
"Be vigilant. Kung may mga kaduda-dudang tao na nakikita diyan na hindi members ng inyong community na biglang sumusulpot at may kaduda-dudang kilos," he said.
Armed Force of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya said they have not received a similar threat.
It is not yet clear if there are other groups behind the threat other than the Abu Sayyaf Group, which declared their support for the Islamic State.
Davao City Police Office Director Senior Supt. Michael John Dubria said they have security measures in place.
"Kahit anong threat yan, we have to be prepared. So, we have to lay out our security plan and deploy our personnel," said Dubria.
