Ex-Romblon mayor faces malversation charge for alleged misuse of P1,250
A former mayor of Looc, Romblon is facing a malversation case for allegedly misappropriating P1,250 in public funds by approving the payroll for a person who did not perform any repair work for her office in 2009.
The Ombudsman has charged ex-mayor Juliet Ngo Fiel with one count of malversation of public funds through falsification of public document over her alleged wrongdoing.
Also charged along with Fiel was Administrative Aide VI Gervacia Sta. Maria, the Looc disbursing officer.
A P24,000 bail has been recommended each of the two accused in the case.
According to the case information sheet submitted by the Ombudsman to the Sandiganbayan, Fiel supposedly conspired with Sta. Maria to misuse P1,250 of the local government's funds.
Sta. Maria reportedly approved and attested that the names of the persons in the payroll rendered service during the time specified on the list.
The P1,250 supposedly constituted the wage of one Domingo Docog supposedly for repair work done in the mayor's office.
Docog, however, neither rendered services nor signed any payroll.
The Ombudsman said Fiel's action caused "caused damage and prejudice" to Looc in the amount she supposedly misused.
Meanwhile, Fiel is also facing a graft case over the alleged anomalous awarding of a contract for a small-scale irrigation project worth P8.9 million in 2007. — VVP, GMA News
