Denials, De Lima walkout mark fifth Senate hearing on drug-related killings


Sixteen retired and active policemen whom self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato linked to extrajudicial killings in Davao City attended Monday's hearing of the Senate Committee of Justice and Human Rights in connection with its investigation on the drug-related killings under the Duterte administration. The hearing lasted from morning to evening, during which the policemen denied Matobato's claims, including the existence of the so-called Davao Death Squad.

Toward the latter part of the hearing, panel chairman Sen. Richard Gordon locked horns with Sen. Leila De Lima over information on a kidnapping case filed against Matobato. The heated argument led to De Lima walking out of the proceedings.
