Duterte apologizes to Jewish community inside synagogue
President Rodrigo Duterte visited the Jewish community in Makati City on Tuesday evening to personally express his apology over his remarks on the Holocaust last week.
A report on Unang Balita said that the President went to the synagogue of the Jewish Association of the Philippines and in his speech before the Jews he said he was very sorry.
"True to my character, I am the one who would say, 'no, I am not that' ... I will slaughter this three million drug addicts. In doing so, I mentioned the word Jewish and that was what terribly wrong. For that, I apologize. That's why I'm here. I really came here to say I'm sorry," he said.
Also, the report said that Duterte explained that he made the remark on Adolf Hitler-led slaughter of millions of Jews during World War II as a reaction to his critics who compared him to Hitler.
He insisted that he did not intend to insult the Jews with his remark.
