Drugs, corruption top barangay assembly day agenda —DILG
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday said the nationwide simultaneous barangay assembly day will push through on Sunday.
DILG Secretary Mike Sueno in a statement said preparations for the first assembly day under the Duterte administration started as early as September.
Former President Benigno Aquino III, through Proclamation No. 260, series of 2011, declared the last Saturday of March and the second Sunday of October 2011 and every year thereafter as barangay assembly days.
"We expect that all barangays are all geared up for the big day. We also believe that this particular assembly day will gain the widest participation from the public," said Sueno.
He said discussions on the barangay assembly day will focus on the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.
"The fight against drugs, crime and corruption is not the government's alone. It is time for the citizens to do their part and become a partner for change," he said.
More than 42,000 barangays across the country are expected to hold the assembly day, which carries the theme, "Para sa Isang Tunay na Pagbabago, Mag-MASID at Makiisa sa Isang Maka-MASAng Asembleya. —ALG, GMA News
