Flight school’s airplanes suspended after Cessna crash in Ilocos Sur

Following the Cessna plane crash off the coast of Santiago in Ilocos Sur last week, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday ordered the suspension of the operations of all C-172 aircraft of the Leading Edge International Aviation Academy Inc.

"In connection with the incident involving one of your C-172 trainer aircraft with Registration Number RP-C7838 that crashed on October 21, 2016 near Vitales Resort near Vigan, Ilocos Sur, this Authority hereby suspends the operation of all your C-172 aircraft," the CAAP said in a letter to Leading Edge dated October 25.

"The lifting of the hold order will depend on the outcome of the investigation to be conducted by inspectors of the Training Organization Certification and Inspection Divison (TOCID)," said the letter signed by Deputy Director General for Administration Capt. Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo.

This comes after the Cessna airplane crash last Friday after witnesses said the plane was flying low in the area, when it went down after its wings hit a zipline cable in the area.

The plane's instructor pilot, Captain John Kaizan Estabillo, and his student Paola Vianca Robles, were both killed during the incident. —NB, GMA News
