Duterte hopes SC lifts order vs. curfew for minors

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed hope on Thursday that the Supreme Court will lift its restraining order against city ordinances implementing a curfew on minors.

Speaking in a press conference in Davao City after arriving from his official visit from Japan, Duterte said the curfew is meant for the protection of children.

"I hope the Supreme Court will rule on it. Well, I am just hoping the curfew against minors...is not really a criminal proceeding as we have insisted. It is a mechanism where we take the child out of the streets to protect them from predators, from being utilized as runners sa shabu, from being raped," he said.

In July, the Supreme Court decided to halt the implementation of curfews in Quezon City, Navotas City, and Manila.

Duterte, who served as Davao City's mayor for 23 years, imposed a curfew on unescorted minors in his hometown past 10 p.m.

After he won the election, he said he would order the arrest of parents of unaccompanied minors breaking the curfew. --JST, GMA News
