Bato orders deeper probe into killing of retired cop’s son in Antipolo
Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Monday said he has ordered a deeper investigation on the killing of a retired policeman's son in Rizal province over the weekend.
“I have directed the Regional Director, Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) to exert more efforts in investigating this case,” Dela Rosa said in a text message to GMA News Online.
Yani Jebulan, 21, a third year Psychology student of Our Lady Fatima University-Antipolo Campus, was shot to death by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen Saturday evening. He was celebrating with friends after passing a school examination.
Jebulan sustained gunshot wounds in the chest and head.
Retired police officer Alfredo Jebulan, Yani’s father, has called on President Rodrigo Duterte and Dela Rosa to immediately find his son's assailants.
The retired cop had threatened to seek out and kill his son's assailants if he finds out that they are also policemen.
"My point is, if I [discover] that one of your policemen has [a] hand for the cause of the death of my son, God forbid, I will let heaven and earth befall upon him. I know you don't tolerate this but let me be very, very frank, if they know how to kill people, SO AM I," he said in a Facebook post, asking for the help of Dela Rosa.
"This goes to you too, Gen Dela Rosa Sir. I'm begging you Help me solve the unnecessary death of my son PLEASE or I will be the one to do it without your help."
Shooting caught on CCTV
Chief Superintendent Valfrie Tabian, director of Police Regional Office 4A, confirmed that the PNP chief has given him instructions and even asked for an update on the case.
“Binigyan niya ako ng instruction kanina pero noong isang araw pa kami nagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon. Kanina nag-follow up din siya ng update sa kaso,” Tabian said in a phone interview with GMA News Online.
He said they have sought the help of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to enhance the CCTV footage which caught the incident.
“May CCTV kaming nakuha pero pinapa-enhance pa kasi medyo Malabo. Ni-request namin ang CIDG dahil sila ang may capability na mag-enhance ng video,” he said.
He said that based on their initial investigation, the motive for the killing was not drug-related and leans more on personal grudge.
“Hindi siya kasama sa drugs, so far yun ang lumalabas. Ang tinitignang angle ay yung may nakaalitan. Galing daw sila sa sugalan sa isang lamay, may nakaalitan doon hindi siya kundi mukhang yung kasama niya, nadamay siya dahil sabay sila umuwi, napuruhan siya,” he said. —ALG, GMA News
