CIDG-8 officers in Senate probe should have ensured funding for expenses —PNP

Police officers of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Region 8 who faced a Senate hearing for their involvement in the death of Albuera mayor Rolando Espinosa should have coordinated with their commander for their expenses in going to Manila, a Philippine National Police official said Friday.

“Pag may mga ganyan they should seek the guidance of their unit commanders. That’s an official duty for them, pinagrereport sila e,” Chief Supt. Lurimer Detran, deputy director for comptrollership, told reporters.

"Trabaho ng commander yun, to see to it na that person should be there (at the hearing),” he added.

CIDG Region 8 chief Supt. Marvin Marcos during the hearing that they just borrowed money for their fare and hotel accommodation.

“Sir isa po sa concern namin kasi mga taga-Tacloban kami, inimbitahan po kami dito sa Senado, 13 po kami, nangutang po kami ng pamasahe at saka yung hotel namin. Ako as RC (regional chief) wala po akong pondo para doon at saka alam ko yung PNP wala rin,” Marcos said.

Senator Panfilo Lacson then asked Director Benjamin Magalong, deputy director for operations, on the status of the team involved in the serving of search warrant against Espinosa.

Magalong said they have been ordered relieved by PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.

“The chief PNP has already ordered the relief from CIDG 8 so all of them are now assigned with PHAU (Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit) in Camp Crame,” he said.

Lacson then told them that they no longer need to worry about their fare and accomodation because they will be reporting and staying at Camp Crame.

“So hindi n’yo na kailangan ng pamasahe, hindi na kayo uuwi,” he said.

But Marcos reiterated: “Yung inutang po namin sa Tacloban papunta dito.”

Magalong said the expenses will be reimbursed by the PNP.
