Senators congratulate Concepcion on election as UP president

Several senators on Tuesday congratulated UP College of Law Dean Danilo Concepcion on his election as the new president of the University of the Philippines.

In a statement, Senator Francis Pangilinan said the election of Concepcion is “well-deserved.”

Pangilinan, a UP alumnus, said he congratulated the new UP president over the phone.

Senator Sonny Angara said Concepcion is one of “toughest” professors at the UP College of Law, where he earned his law degree.

“Congrats UP Law Dean Danny Concepcion for being elected the next UP President. [He’s] one of our toughest professors at the College of Law,” Angara said in a social media post.

Concepcion is the the 21st president of the university, according to the Tinig ng Plaridel, the official student publication of the UP College of Mass Communication.

Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, for his part, said he hopes Concepcion’s election will lead to a better future for UP students.

“Inaasahan ko na kami'y magkatuwang sa pagpapaunlad ng kinabukasan ng mga estudyanteng Pilipino at Iskolar ng Bayan,” Aquino said in a statement.

“Sa kanyang pamumuno, sigurado ako na lalo pang maiaangat ang UP bilang pangunahing unibersidad ng bansa,” the senator said.

Concepcion will succeed outgoing UP President Alfredo Pascual, whose term will end in February 2017. — Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/RSJ, GMA News
