Security tight but visitors allowed at Marcos’ grave at heroes’ cemetery

Supporters of late President Ferdinand Marcos were thoroughly frisked by security posted at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) before they were allowed near the burial site of the dictator.

Aside from screening at the cemetery gates, Marisol Abdurahman reported on 24 Oras on Wednesday that visitors must log in their names and submit themselves for inspection to the Marcoses' personal security marshals before they could see the grave.

Upon their entry, visitors were then given prayer cards.

Visitors may stay at the camp until five in the afternoon everyday as long as they follow rules set by the Marcoses inside the camp.

Some supporters like Ma. Lourdes Mateo came from far-flung areas like Ilocos to pay respect to the man whose burial at the LNMB continues to provoke protests.

"Happy po. Kasi dito na po siya natutulog," Mateo said. "Pinag-pray ko din po."

On Tuesday night, members of the Block Marcos Movement held a program outside the LNMB to protest the burial of the late dictator at the heroes' graveyard.

The group insisted that burying Marcos at the LNMB was tantamount to forgetting the atrocities committed under his regime. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
