JBC lists nominees for CA post vacated by Sara Duterte's mother-in-law
The Supreme Court released the names of the shortlisted nominees for a Court of Appeals post after Associate Justice Agnes Reyes-Carpio compulsorily retired on December 1 when she turned 70.
The list was based on the voting conducted by members of the Judicial and Bar Council on Friday.
Carpio is the mother-in-law of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Sara is married to lawyer Mans Carpio, who also happens to be the nephew of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.
Based on her Court of Appeals profile, Carpio took up both law and commerce at the University of Mindanao. Her legal career includes being a Special Counsel at the Davao City Fiscal's Office; Regional Trial Court Judge in Davao, Manila, Parañaque, and Pasig. She was ppointed to the Court of Appeals in November 2009.

Meanwhile, the JBC also named the shortlisted nominees for a Sandiganbayan post vacated by Associate Justice Napoleon Inoturan, who opted for optional retirement on August 1, 2016.

Based on Article VIII, sec. 9 of the 1987 Constitution, vacancies to the Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals, and Shari’ah Appellate Court should be filled within 90 days from the official submission of the shortlist by the JBC to the Office of the President. — VVP, GMA News
