UP is lone PHL university on Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2016-2017 list


The University of the Philippines is the only Philippine university that made it to the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings for the period of 2016 to 2017.

At rank 801, UP and other universities in the Philippines are not included in the top 200 universities in Asia but can be found in the overall rankings of the London-based publication.

In the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings for Asia, UP retained its 70th spot from last year and was followed by the Ateneo de Manila University at 99, up 15 places from 114 in 2015. De La Salle University (DLSU) leapt 40 places up from the 183rd to 143rd spot, surpassing the University of Santo Tomas (UST), which dropped from 143rd to 157th despite being the only Philippine university to receive four QS stars.

The National University of Singapore remains the top university in Asia in the latest Times Higher Education's (THE) World University Rankings and is followed by the Nanyang Technological University, Peking University, University of Hong Kong, and Tsinghua University.

On the top of THE's worldwide list are the following:

1) University of Oxford, United Kingdom (up from 2)

2) California Institute of Technology, United States (down from 1)

3) Stanford University, United States

4) University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

5) Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States

6) Harvard University, United States

7) Princeton University, United States

8) Imperial College London, United Kingdom

9) ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland

10) University of California - Berkeley, United States  (Up from 13) and University of Chicago, United States
