Chinese President Xi Jinping sends condolences to PHL for ‘Nina’ casualties, damage


Chinese President Xi Jinping sent his condolences Sunday to President Rodrigo Duterte and the Filipino people for the casualties and damage due to Typhoon Nina (international name: Nock-Ten).

Xi, in a statement, said China is ready to provide emergency assistance, adding that China and the Philippines are friendly neighbors, the Chinese Embassy said.

The Chinese leader said his government and people are deeply worried about those who lost their homes and were affected by the disaster.

Xi is hopeful that the Filipino people, under the leadership of Duterte and his government, will bounce back from the disaster and rebuild their homes.

Typhoon Nina made landfall in the Philippines on Sunday, Christmas Day.

Three people died and 21 persons were missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said in its 8 a.m. report on Jan. 1, 2017.

It added that 424,223 families or 1,893,404 persons were affected in 1,698 barangays in Regions CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, and VIII. —KG, GMA News
