Bato dela Rosa to present PNP anti-illegal drug accomplishments to Duterte

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa is set to present to President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday their accomplishment on the government’s intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign.

“‘Yung Double Barrel accomplishment (ipe-present) namin. We reached our target, we hit our target,” Dela Rosa said during a press conference at Camp Crame before heading to Malacañang.

Dela Rosa said attending the command conference with him are the regional directors and directors of the national support units.

He said the Armed Forces of the Philippines will also be meeting with President Duterte.

Asked what will be the other agenda in the meeting, Dela Rosa said he does not know yet.

The PNP chief earlier said they have reached 70 percent of their target 1.8 million drug personalities

“Hindi pa naubos yung ating six months na initially self-imposed deadline, na-hit na natin yung target na 70 percent of the 1.8 million drug personalities,” he said in late December.

Dela Rosa said statistics from the PNP Directorate for Operations (DO) show that the police have recorded a total of 1,326,472 individuals involved in illegal drugs.

Duterte, during the election campaign, promised to rid the country of illegal drugs in the first six months of his administration. But he extended for another six months the deadline to solve the crime and drug problem in the country saying he did not realize how severe the problem is until he was elected President.

During his New Year’s call Friday morning, Dela Rosa said he directed the regional directors and head of NSUs to intensify their efforts and not be discouraged by criticisms.

“Mas paigtingin ‘yung aming pagsusumikap, double pa ‘yung efforts. Huwag (silang) magpadiscourage sa mga batikos. Banat pa rin, continue the game,” he said.

He said the fight against illegal drugs will remain to be the top priority of the PNP until all the barangays are no longer affected by illegal drugs.

“Drugs pa rin (ang priority). Hindi pa natin (naabot) yung ating target. Ang ating target dyan is zero drug affected barangays. I don't know kung kailan natin makukuha yan but hopefully this year kukunin natin,” he said.  — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
