In a video of their visit, Mrs. Abe was seen holding Avanceña's hand as she led them to take photos with the children who welcomed them.

Speaking in Visayan, Avanceña told the crowd in Mintal Cemetery that Duterte is grateful to the Japanese government for all the help they extended to the Philippines.

Avanceña also joined Duterte to the state banquet for the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife in Malacañang on Thursday night.

Palace photos also showed that the two couples met ahead of the state banquet.
