Dolorfino: Leftists to be 'morally bankrupt' if they join Erap rallies
Left-leaning militant groups will not likely join rallies on September 12, when the Sandiganbayan hands down its verdict on former President Joseph Estradaâs plunder case, said Philippine Marines commander Major Gen. Ben Mohammad Dolorfino Dolorfino, former head of the Metro Manila military command, said leftists organizations will lose their credibility if they join the rally of pro-Estrada groups on Wednesday. âDuring the time of former President Estrada they were the ones calling for his ouster on charges of corruption. Kung sumama sila rito (If they show up on Wednesday) it will show they are morally bankrupt organizations," he said on QTV-11 Saturday noon. In 2001, groups led by leftist organizations went to Malacañang for a siege that would force Estrada to vacate his seat. The graft court will hand down on Wednesday its decision on the plunder charges filed against Estrada in 2001. Estrada was ousted on charges of corruption. Earlier, police said they will allow rallies by supporters of Estrada in Metro Manila on Wednesday, so long as they are peaceful and have the required permits. Meanwhile, Cebu archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal said Estrada is sure he will no longer return to politics even if he were acquitted. âHe was the one who said it. Heâs quite old, 70 years old," Vidal recalled Estrada telling him, when he told him that he could still be great by serving the poor. - GMANews.TV
