Doc of hazing 'victim' submits affidavit to QC cops

The doctor who brought alleged hazing victim Cris Anthony Mendez to a hospital finally showed up Thursday night and personally gave his affidavit to authorities in Quezon City, radio dzBB reported on Saturday. The radio station said Dr Francisco Cruz Jr submitted a copy of his sworn affidavit to Senior Supt Franklin Mabanag, chief of the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation Unit. Cruz's affidavit contained statements in relation to Mendez's death. However, dzBB said Mabanag refused to divulge the contents of Cruz's affidavit. The physician is the assistant chief of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) ophthalmology department who brought Mendez to the hospital last August 27. Meanwhile, the same report said Mendez family insisted that the University of the Philippines student died due to hazing. Mendez was declared dead on arrival at the VMMC. - GMANews.TV
