52 high schools want 10% tuition hike
Education officials said Friday at least 52 high schools in Metro Manila have asked for a 10% tuition increase for school year 2006-2007. Acting Education Secretary Fe Hidalgo said the list includes 17 high schools in Manila, 15 in Quezon City, and 20 in other areas of the National Capital Region. "Most of the schools asked for a 10% hike in tuition. But we have to make it clear that we can allow them to seek a hike of up to 10%, and only after consultation with parents," Hidalgo said. The schools in Manila that sought tuition hike include Perpetual Help College, Arellano University, Philippine Scholastic Academy, St. Mary's Academy, Westminster High School; San Juan de Letran College, Hope Christian High School, Immaculate Conception Academy of Manila, Chiang Kai Shek College, University of the East, St. Stephen High school; Concordia College, De Ocampo Memorial College, St. Jude Catholic School, St. Mary Academy, Colegio de Sta. Rosa, and Paco Citizens Academy Foundation. Those seeking a tuition hike in Quezon City included St. Joseph College, Immaculate Heart of Mary College, Dr. Carlos Tanting College, Roosevelt College Cubao, St. Bridget School; National College of Business and Arts, Roosevelt College Quirino, Franciscan School, St. Mary College, Miriam School, Philadelphia School, First Patrick School, Angelicum College, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College and Infant Jesus Academy. Other schools include St. Louis College, Children of Mary Immaculate College, St. Jude Academy Manila (Valenzuela City); Colegio de Sta. Ana (Taguig); Mary Cause of Our Joy Catholic School (Muntinlupa); Arellano University, La Salle Greenhills, Immaculate Conception Academy (San Juan); St. Anthony Nova School (Kalookan City); St. Paul College, Holy Life School (Pasig City); Manresa School (Parañaque City); Philippine Pasay Chung Hwa Academy, St. Mary's Academy (Pasay City); Makati Hope Christian School Inc., Assumption College (Makati City); and STI Academy, Bloomfield Academy and Las Piñas College (Las Piñas City).-GMANews.TV
