Promotions of AFP chief, 29 other officers get CA nod


The bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) approved on Wednesday the promotions of Armed Forces chief General Eduardo Año and 29 other senior military officers. 

Cavite Rep. Roy Loyola, chair of the CA committee on national defense, moved for the confirmation of Año’s promotion to four-star rank, saying he will create “meaningful reform” in the AFP. 

Año was the commanding general of the Philippine Army prior to his appointment as AFP chief.

He also previously served as chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence.

Meanwhile, the promotions of 29 other military officers were also approved: 

  • Jose Antonio Carlos Motril – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Emmanuel Joaquin Guina – to the rank of brigadier general (reserve)
  • Edmund Dante Janda – to the rank of brigadier general (reserve)
  • Herminigildo Francisco Aquino – to the rank of major general
  • Gavin Edjawan – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Samuel Gotico – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Isidro Purisima – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Ernesto Ravina Jr. – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Rene Medina – to the rank of rear admiral
  • Enrique Reyes – to the rank of major general
  • Joselito Reyes – to the rank of major general
  • Earl Baliao – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Roy Devesa – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Roseller Murillo – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Jon Aying – to the rank of major general
  • Bienvenifo Datuin Jr. – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Rhoderick Parayno – to the rank of major general
  • Amador Magdamit Jr. – to the rank of colonel, Judge Advocate General Service (reserve)
  • Erick Kagaon – to the rank of commodore
  • Custodio Parcon Jr. – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Simplicio Lumantas Jr. – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Gilbert Gapay – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Jesus Manangquil Jr – to the rank of brigadier general
  • Peter Suchianco – to the rank of brigadier general (reserve)
  • Robert Arevalo – to the rank of major general
  • Danilo Pamonag – to the rank of major general
  • Narciso Vingson Jr. – to the rank of vice admiral
