Poe says corruption ‘alive and well’ under Duterte admin
Senator Grace Poe on Tuesday said corruption remains “alive and well” under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Poe made the statement during a television interview when asked about her take on the arrival of former police officer Wenceslao "Wally" Sombero from Canada.
“Corruption is alive and well. Even in this administration, there are still people protecting each other’s friends and interests,” Poe said.
Sombero, the alleged middleman of Chinese gambling tycoon Jack Lam, allegedly bribed sacked BI deputy commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles in exchange for the release of arrested illegal workers from a casino in Pampanga.
Poe said the Senate probe seeks “to bring out the truth” on the scandal involving sacked Argosino and Robles.
“The Senate is there to bring out the truth and also for the public to be able to witness it because it can’t be done in the courts,” Poe said.
Sombero arrived from Canada Tuesday morning and is set to face the Senate Blue Ribbon committee on Thursday. — MDM, GMA News
