Palace respects SC decision on Marcos jewelry collection

Malacañang on Tuesday said will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on the jewelry collection of former first lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella in a press briefing in Malacañang said that the Palace is yet to decide if the collection will be sold to generate funds for the government.

"I don't know if we're going to sell it. But we will abide by the decision that it belongs to the government," he said.

The SC on Monday upheld the decision of the Sandiganbayan to forfeit the jewelry collection in favor of the government.

The "Malacañang Collection" is composed of smaller, less expensive pieces that the Marcoses left behind when they fled during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

It is kept in the vaults of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) along with the Roumeliotes and Hawaii collection. —ALG, GMA News
