PSG members get security training in Russia
Several members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) have undergone a VIP protection training with its Russian counterpart late February until early this month, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow has said.
The embassy said a 20-man delegation from the PSG went to the Russian capital and to go through a VIP Protection Training Program with the Federal Protective Service of the Russian Federation from February 27 to March 11.
The said team was headed by Col. Ignatius N. Patrimonio.
“This training in Russia is a historic first for the PSG and augurs very well for Philippines-Russia relations," Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.
"This is a manifestation of the growing trust and confidence between the two sides which in turn generates positive momentum for deeper cooperation in the field of security and other areas of mutual interest,” he added.
The capacity-building activity is one of the concrete results of the recent successful visit to the Philippines of Nikolay Patrushev, chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation in February.
Patrushev met with President Rodrigo Duterte, Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenza and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. in Davao City to discuss a wide range of bilateral matters, including defense and security cooperation. —NB, GMA News
