Andanar: PHL, Thailand to urge ASEAN to fight fake news
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Tuesday said the Philippines and Thailand had agreed to encourage members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to campaign against fake news.
Andanar made the announcement following a meeting with Deputy Government Spokesman Lt. Gen. Werachon Sukonthapatipak in Thailand.
“A very productive morning in Bangkok, Thailand. My PCOO Team and I are happy to report to you that both sides (Philippines and Thailand) agreed to craft a Communications Bilateral MOU,” he said in a Facebook post.
“The Communication's MOU will cover cooperation between the two countries in the field of TV, radio, print, public relations and social media management. Both sides also agreed that all ASEAN Members should come together to combat 'fake news,'" he added.
Andanar also met with his counterpart in Myanmar, Dr. Pe Myint of the Ministry of Information on Monday.
During the meeting, Andanar expressed the Philippines’ intention to renew the memorandum of agreement between the PCOO and Myanmar’s Ministry of Information on news exchange, radio and television broadcasting, public relations, printing and publishing. — MDM, GMA News
