Duterte appoints Cabinet officials to UNESCO PHL commission
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed members of his Cabinet to be part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) country commission.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Department of Education (DepEd) Sec. Leonor Briones, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Sec. Fortunato de la Peña, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Guiling Mamondiong were appointed on March 14.
Also appointed were National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairperson Virgilio Almario, DOST Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr., and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) commissioner Prospero “Popoy” de Vera.
The Office of the Executive Secretary clarified that UNESCO appointees with previous appointments would continue their primary jobs.
“All of them were designated/given the additional task of being members to the UNESCO. They will continue to perform their functions as required by their primary appointments,” according to a press release.
Others appointed to the same post are Denis Villorente, Florita Rubiano Villar, Rosemarie Edillon, and Verna Esmeralda Covar Buensuceso.
They will be representing the educational, scientific and cultural agencies of the government for the next three years.
