No extension of ITR filing deadline on April 17

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Wednesday reminded taxpayers that the April 17 deadline for filing their annual income tax returns is non-extendable.

"There will be no extension of the said deadline just like what was strictly enforced during the income tax filing/payment deadline last April 15, 2016," the BIR said.

It noted that tax returns filed and taxes paid after 5:00 p.m. of April 17 will be "slapped with the corresponding penalties as provided for in the Tax Code."

The penalties include 25 percent surcharge, 20 percent interest per annum and compromise penalty.

BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay earlier urged taxpayers to file their ITRs ahead of the Holy Week break.

The actual deadline is usually on April 15, but it falls on Black Saturday this year, a non-working holiday. —NB, GMA News
