Robredo sees 15-point drop in trust rating in SWS 1Q poll

Trust for Vice President Leni Robredo slipped anew for the first quarter of 2017, with her net rating going down another 15 points, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll showed.

According to the results of the survey released Tuesday night, 55 percent of adult Filipinos have “much trust” for the Vice President, while 25 percent have “little trust,” and another 20 percent are undecided. 

This brings her net trust rating to a “good” +30, down 15 points from the +45 she got in December 2016, where 62 percent of respondents said they had “much trust” in her and another 18 percent gave her “little trust.”

The non-commissioned survey was conducted from March 25 to 28, using face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult Filipinos nationwide. It had a sampling error margin of ±3 percent, and ±6 each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, where SWS got 300 respondents each.

This was released about a month since the SWS came out with satisfaction ratings, where Robredo got a “moderate” +26, an 11-point drop that was the biggest dip among top government officials.

The survey was conducted months after her exit from the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte, where she served as chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) for five months.

Despite the decline, the Vice President’s camp said they were thankful for the “continued show of trust” for her.

In a statement, Robredo’s spokesperson Georgina Hernandez said they are “encouraged” by the results, noting that the survey covered a period where the Vice President “began work outside the Cabinet,” through her office’s “Angat Buhay” anti-poverty initiative.

“The survey results are a reminder to us as well that there are still many Filipinos who place their trust in VP Leni and her ability to serve and give voice to those on the margins of society,” Hernandez said.

Big drop in Mindanao, urban areas

Net trust for Robredo has gone down across all categories, except for a slight improvement among 18 to 24-year-olds.

She saw the biggest loss in Mindanao, where her net trust rating came in at +20, falling down by 32 points and two grades, from “very good” to “moderate,” since the last quarter.

Her net trust rating remains “very good” in Visayas and Balance Luzon, though both down by 10 points, to +40 and +33, respectively.

Trust for the Vice President in urban and rural areas also fell by one grade, from last quarter’s “good” to “moderate.” She lost 24 points in urban areas, with a +23 net trust rating, and seven points in rural areas, where she got +35.

Among social classes, she got a “moderate” +19 from class ABC, down by eight points. She still fares slightly better among classes D and E, though ratings here both fell by one grade: she got a “moderate” +27 and “good” +46, respectively.

Robredo maintained a “good” net trust from women with +33, though it is down by 14 points. With men, she got a “moderate” +26, down by 16 points.

The lone sector where the Vice President saw a slight increase was with 18 to 24-year-olds, where she got a “good” +38, up by four points from last quarter. She received a “good” +35 from 45 to 54 year-olds.

Her ratings fell by one grade in other age brackets, where she got double-digit losses: she got a “good” +35 from 25 to 34-year-olds, down by 18 points; a “good” +32 from 35 to 44-year-olds, down by 2- points; and a “moderate” +14 from 55-year-olds and above, a 23-point decline.

Based on educational attainment, Robredo lost 32 points from college graduates, where she got a “neutral” +7. She got a “good” +37 from elementary graduates, a “good” +38 from non-elementary graduates, a “moderate” +27 from high school graduates, all of which came with double-digit losses as well. —JST, GMA News
