DILG chief sees no spillover of violence to NCR despite transfer of Maute patriarch
Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy assured the public on Friday that the transfer of Cayamora Maute, father of the two leaders of the Maute terrorist group, to Taguig would not pose security threat to Metro Manila residents.
"Hindi naman, 'yung security threat concern para lang mailayo natin doon sa area. They can be easily secured dito sa Bicutan," Cuy told reporters when asked on a possible spillover of violence in Metro Manila following the arrest and transfer of the Maute patriarch.
Cayamora Maute was transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City earlier this week hours after he and three others were arrested in a checkpoint in Davao City.
His two sons, Omar and Abdullah, are leaders of the ISIS-inspired Maute group that recently attacked Marawi City and is currently the subject of intense military operations there.
Eastern Mindanao Command deputy commander Brig. Gen Gilbert Gapay said Cayamora was transferred to Metro Manila for security reasons and to prevent possible rescue attempts led by his sons.
Nabbed together with Cayamora were his second wife Kongan Alfonso Balawag, daughter Norjannah Balawag Maute, and son-in-law Benzarali Tingao. —KBK, GMA News
