PNP: Ideal ratio of 1 cop for 500 residents achieved in 2022
The Philippine National Police expects to achieve the ideal ratio of one policeman for every 500 residents in the next five years.
Supt. Juvenal Barbosa, assistant chief of Recruitment and Selection Division of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, said the ration now stands at 1:572.
“Based on our projection, by the year 2022, the ratio will be 1:489,” he said.
He said this was based on the recent census they conducted among the 160,000 members of the PNP.
Barbosa said PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa approved the recruitment of 14,484 additional personnel this year.
“Out of the 14,484, we allocated 10,000 sa regular recruitment program while 4,484 was given to the attrition recruitment program,” he said.
He said the regular recruitment program is based on the yearly allocation given to the PNP based on the General Appropriations Act while the attrition is for the filling up of vacancies due to death of personnel, dismissal, or separation from service.
According to the National Police Commission, the 10,000 regular quota is distributed per region, as follows: PRO1- 300; PRO2- 350; PRO3- 300; PRO4A- 400; PRO4B- 350; PRO5- 800; PRO6- 400; PRO7- 300; PRO8- 800; PRO9- 500; PRO10- 600; PRO11- 500; PRO12- 500; PRO13- 700; PRO COR- 800; PRO ARMM-700; NCRPO- 360; PRO18- 700; Maritime Group (MG)- 200; Aviation Security Group (ASG)- 200; Headquarters Support Service (HSS)-100; Information Technology Management Service (ITMS)-50; Police Community Relations Group (PCRG)- 50; and Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC)- 40.
Meanwhile, the 4,484 attrition quota is distributed per region, as follows: PRO1- 200; PRO2- 140; PRO3- 270; PRO4A- 260; PRO4B- 100; PRO5- 165; PRO6- 220; PRO7- 200; PRO8- 220; PRO9- 230; PRO10- 260; PRO11- 250; PRO12- 150; PRO13- 100; PRO COR- 200; PRO ARMM- 250; NCRPO- 500; PRO18- 150; MG- 150; ASG- 150; HSS-200; Explosive Ordnance Disposal K9 (EOD K9)- 54; and Crime Laboratory Group (CLG)- 65.
Barbosa said interested applicants no longer need to go to the police offices to submit their documents. They may instead just log on to the PNP website for the online recruitment application system.
“Ang ginawa ng PNP para ma-alleviate ‘yung expenses ng ating mga PO1 applicants ay nag-establish po tayo ng online recruitment application system. Dati po kasi the applicants are required to report personally sa lahat ng mga recruiting offices, sa ngayon mag-login lang sila sa system natin then sundin ang mga instructions,” Barbosa said.
He said the applicant only needs to scan their documents and upload it and then wait for the invitation or notice that will be sent to them.
“Kapag meron na silang schedule doon na po magsisimula, ‘yung mga documents na sinubmit nila are subject for further verification. After n’un magkakaroon ng initial assessment or screening, titingnan kung may presence of tattoo, deformities on the bodies of applicants,” Barbosa said.
He said those with deformities which would affect their muscle movement such as their ability to hold a gun would be disqualified.
Barbosa added that applicants with tattoos are also not allowed to join the PNP.
“Sa ngayon hindi na po pinapayagan sa isang applicant na may tattoo. ‘Yun po ang policy ng ating health service,” Barbosa said.
However, those who are already members of the PNP are allowed to have tattoos as long as it is not seen when they are wearing their uniforms.
Barbosa said successful applicants will already draw a salary even while undergoing training.
“Matatanggap na nila yung sweldo nila for 12 months kasi after po nila ma-appoint sa PNP mag undergo sila ng Public Safety Course, anim buwan po ‘yun then another six months sa field training program. Doon sa one year na ‘yun under probation sila,” Barbosa said. —NB/KVD, GMA News
