Anti-crime group monitors zero kidnapping in the past two months

For the first time in many years, an anti-crime group reported zero kidnapping incidents in the past two months, Teresita Ang-See said Monday.

Ang-See, chairperson of the Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order, said they see this as a big improvement from the past years.

“Malaki ang improvement (ngayon). Hindi madalas mangyari ‘yun na two months kami na zero kidnapping case. So far itong dalawang buwan na ito talagang nag-zero. Wala kaming bagong tinututukan na kaso,” she told reporters when asked to assess the first year of President Rodrigo Duterte.

She was a guest during the Philippine National Police flag ceremony as vice-chairperson of PNP Foundation Inc which donated police and office equipment to the organization.

“Sa peace and order talaga na tinututukan namin, maganda talaga ‘yung record natin. Itong dalawang buwan na ito talagang tahimik,” Ang-See added.

She said they were no longer staying up late to monitor kidnapping cases.

“Hindi kami inaabot ng madaling araw pagtutok sa kidnap for ransom cases,” she said.

She said in past years, they would receive reports of at least two kidnapping incidents in a week, but this year they only monitored one to two cases a month.

“Malaki pa rin ang improvement. Itong taong ito siguro one case or two cases a month pero compared naman noong dati na two cases a week. Ang laking improvement na sa anti-kidnapping campaign natin,” she said.

She said the latest case they handled was a kidnapping incident that happened two months ago. She refused to give any details about it.

“Meron pa kaming isang kaso na mino-monitor. Two months ago na rin ‘yan. I cannot give details dahil live pa 'yung case namin,” he said.

Ang-See said they are also monitoring the kidnapping-murder case of Gertrudes Tan in Angat, Bulacan.

She said they believe that suspect Apolinario Marcelo was influential because he had the guts to file charges against the personnel of the Philippine National Police-Anti Kidnapping Group who arrested him.

“Ang nangyari pa, ang AKG ang kinasuhan nila. Lakas loob talaga. Napakalakas ng kapit nitong  barangay captain na ito. Biro mo nangyari 'yan sa Angat, Bulacan, nag-issue ng bail ang Quezon City na judge. Nagpilit sila na ipa-bail e kidnap murder ‘yan. Paano mong ire-release 'yan? Ngayon may habeas corpus case itong mga AKG,” she said.

She said they have expressed full support to the AKG personnel.

“Pinangakuan namin sila na full support kami sa Anti-Kidnapping Group na kahit anong kaso ninyo tama ang ginawa nila na hindi nila ni-release dahil mas malaking kaso ang kidnap-murder case and it is non-bailable,” she said.

She said they have asked the Supreme Court to check the judge who issued the bail and the sheriff who implemented it.

“We asked the SC to check how come that judge issued bail and sheriff niya ay napakalakas ang loob, nagpipilit, napaka-belligerent. Alas-singko ng hapon pinipilit kunin 'yung suspek na nakakulong sa Camp Crame,” she said. —KG, GMA News
