Maute group blocks hideout with vehicles to slow military's advance

Members of the Maute group have positioned vehicles in front of one of their hideouts in Marawi City to slow the advance of the military, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday by Sandra Aguinaldo.

Government soldiers were on the alert since the Maute group members were just 70 meters away.

A look at buildings previously held by the terror group and cleared by the military showed that houses were connected to each other via holes, allowing the terrorists to move quickly without being noticed.

The military said this was one reason why it is hard to go after the Maute group.

Government troopers were able to clear 50 more buildings over the weekend, according to Armed Forces chief General Eduardo Año.

However, the Maute group members remain at the center of the city. —KG, GMA News
